Material (MOC) comparator

Compare up to four materials of construction (MOC) side by side — chemical composition, tensile and yield strength, elongation, hardness, PREN and density — for stainless, duplex, carbon, alloy, nickel, titanium and copper-nickel grades.

Single values are maximums; ranges are min–max; "bal" = balance. Limits are typical of the basis specification for that product form — forgings, pipe and fittings specifications differ slightly. Always check the exact specification, edition and the mill test certificate.

Frequently asked questions

What does MOC mean?

Material of construction — the material specified for a piping component, e.g. SS 316L or A105.

Which is stronger, 316L or duplex 2205?

Duplex 2205 has a minimum yield strength of 450 MPa versus 170 MPa for 316L — more than 2.5 times higher.

What is PREN?

Pitting resistance equivalent number = %Cr + 3.3×%Mo + 16×%N. Higher PREN means better resistance to chloride pitting.
